It started with a kiss - where will it end?

By James Lancaster The Argus, 13/2/07.

Viewers will discover whether a husband and wife business team manage to "seal it with a kiss" on the reality television show Dragons' Den tomorrow. Kate and Jerry Daly, of Alfred Road, Eastbourne, pitched their kiss-casting kit to the multimillionaire dragons, hoping to secure £80,000 investment. The kits, which they sell for £14.99, contain two pots of powder made from seaweed extract, which forms a moulding mixture when added to water. The user presses their lips into the substance to create a pout replica, which they turn into a cast with the plaster provided. Kate and Jerry, who run Send A Kiss, wanted the money to open their own factory. The outcome of their encounter with the dragons is top secret but Business can reveal one of the panelists, Theo Paphitis, approached the couple after the show with a separate offer which they snapped at.

Mr Paphitis is a major shareholder in the high street lingerie chain La Senza and offered to stock the kits for a Valentine's Day promotion. Kate, 42, hit on the idea when husband Jerry gave her a plaster cast of his lips as a keepsake after he developed a potentially fatal heart condition three years ago. Jerry, 47, made a full recovery. Kate said: "Going on Dragons' Den was the most terrifying experience but an incredible one too, although I can't reveal what happened in the den. "I spoke to Theo after the show and couldn't believe it when he offered me the La Senza promotion. "I only set the company up last year after Jerry recovered from surgery so it's still very early days but what an amazing start to 2007. I really hope it takes off."
